Sadie Novak and Dr. James Hougland attended the American Chemical Society meeting in Chicago in August. Sadie presented her poster entitled GOAT Herding: The Intracellular Trafficking Pathway for Ghrelin O-acyltransferase. She was also awarded the Division of Biological Chemistry Travel Award for this meeting. Well done! Link
Grace and Nico said goodbye to Syracuse University, but not before they presented their Summer research at the Syracuse SOURCE Summer Symposium. Thank you for all your hard work this Summer and we wish you all the best in your last year of undergrad. Link
Dr. Hougland co-organized and attended the FASEB Protein Lipidation Meeting in Saxtons River, VT with four of our graduate students. Our newest student, Andrea Sprague-Getsy, attended the conference and Mariah Pierce, Sadie Novak, and Amber Ford presented posters of their graduate work on ghrelin O-acyltransferase solubilization, cellular trafficking and biomarker viability. The Taste of Syracuse was back on for 2022 and the Hougland lab represented! Some of the favorites included: Lavender Lemonade from Birdsong Cafe, Chicken and Rice from Syracuse Halal Gyro, and Strawberry Shortcake Donuts from Glazed and Confused. Link
Mariah Pierce and Sadie Novak attended the 39th Annual Chemistry GSS in Buffalo, New York from May 17-19. Mariah was able to give a talk on her research entitled “Purification of the integral membrane enzyme human ghrelin O-acyltransferase (GOAT)” and Sadie presented a poster of her research on “Determining key sequence elements controlling intracellular trafficking of ghrelin O-acyltransferase”, which was selected as the runner up for Best Poster. Congratulations to you both! Link
Congratulations are in order for Andrea, our newest member of the lab. She officially passed all her breadth exams and is ready for a busy Summer of research in the lab. Bubble teas for all:) Link
Congratulations, Amber Ford, for passing your qualifying exam on Friday. You did an outstanding job and we are so proud to have you around for the next three years. Cheers!! Link
