Students Attend Graduate Student Symposium in Buffalo, NY

Mariah Pierce and Sadie Novak attended the 39th Annual Chemistry GSS in Buffalo, New York from May 17-19. Mariah was able to give a talk on her research entitled “Purification of the integral membrane enzyme human ghrelin O-acyltransferase (GOAT)” and Sadie presented a poster of her research on “Determining key sequence elements controlling intracellular trafficking of ghrelin O-acyltransferase”, which was selected as the runner up for Best Poster. Congratulations to you both!

Congratulations, Andrea!

Congratulations are in order for Andrea, our newest member of the lab. She officially passed all her breadth exams and is ready for a busy Summer of research in the lab. Bubble teas for all:)

And It’s Another Clean Pass!

Congratulations, Amber Ford, for passing your qualifying exam on Friday. You did an outstanding job and we are so proud to have you around for the next three years. Cheers!!

Pies for Pi Day 3.14

The lab enjoyed a much-needed break during the day to eat some apple pie on Pi Day.

PINK1 Coordination

This is what happens when you do a literature critique on a paper about protein kinase PINK1.

Welcome to our Lab, Andrea

We would like to welcome Andrea Sprague-Getsy, a first-year student in the Department of Chemistry, to our laboratory group. She joins us from SUNY Binghamton where she did her undergraduate work. We look forward to working with her over the next few years as she pursues her PhD degree.

Hougland Lab runs a 5K

The Lab ran a 5k together this past weekend. The Burn Run is hosted by the East Syracuse Fire Department and raises money for the Burn Foundation of Central New York. It was a beautiful, chilly Fall day in CNY and perfect for a run/walk. We look forward to doing another run together soon.

ACS Conference in Atlanta

Mariah Pierce received the ACS Women’s Chemist Committee and Eli Lilly Travel Award to attend the American Chemical Society Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this Summer. She presented her research entitled “Biochemical and structural studies to define the catalytic strategy of ghrelin O-acyltransferase”. Here are some highlights from her trip!

So Long, Farewell

The Summer is over and we said goodbye to our Summer Undergraduate researchers, Vicky and Daneira. It was wonderful to have you in the lab and job well done!
